In an effort to encourage young musicians the Two Tenors, as often as physically possible, employ young guest artists. During their time on the concert they become very comfortable playing in front of large audiences and also learn about the performing industry as a career.
Clayton Capps, Tubist
Clayton lives in Salado TX where he was born. Growing up in a Christian family, Clayton was fascinated by music. He has always had an ear for the bass line and that is why he chose the tuba as a youngster. From junior high through high school Clayton participated in numerous music competitions which ultimately led to making the All State band of Texas in 1993.
After graduating from high school in 1993, he went on to attend the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, TX. In 1998 he graduated with a bachelors degree in Music Performance. Clayton enjoys playing in numerous groups including: Waco Community band, Temple college symphonic band, University of Mary-Hardin Baylor Symphonic Band, Chisholm brass quintet, Temple Symphony Orchestra.
Currently Clayton is the band director for the Granger TX ISD where he has been teaching since 2007. Clayton loves to play solos on the tuba. He feels it is an instrument that was meant to copy the vocal style of a bass singer. Clayton says: "Anything a trumpet can do, a tuba can do--it's just bigger". To be able to take a big piece of metal and make a beautiful melody is definitely a special gift from God. He loves to honor God with the instrument he loves to play.
