An American trained artist, tenor Barry Craft has earned the reputation as one of the most
sought-after singers of the current generation. His lyric tenor is especially suited to the
very high tessitura found in the Bel Canto operas of Bellini, Donizetti, and in symphonic
works such as Orff's Carmina Burana.
Barry has sung leading tenor roles with numerous opera companies and is always invited for
return engagements. He is at home on both the recital and symphonic stages as well having
performed the entire major oratorio repertoire with many internationally famous orchestras.
Barry performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England and has performed for members
of the Royal Family of Japan as well as President Kovac of the Slovak Republic.
To much critical acclaim he created the role of Preston in the world premiere of Musgrave's
opera Harriet Tubman. Mr. Craft has sung in many of the world's most impressive music centers:
Musik Theater of Amsterdam, Playhouse Theatre in Scotland, Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas,
Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Reduta Concert Hall in Slovakia. He has been heard live on National
Public Radio as well as the BBC. He has worked extensively with composer Gian Carlo Menotti
in productions of Amahl and the Night Visitors. He is also a recording artist and has numerous
solo albums to his credit as well as recordings of Beethoven 9th Symphony, Handel Messiah,
Dvorak Stabat Mater, and the Verdi and Mozart Requiems.
In addition to his work as a lyric tenor, Mr. Craft has also made his mark as a stage director
having directed productions of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Bach's St. Matthew Passion, and Menotti's
Amahl and the Night Visitors.
Barry holds degrees in vocal performance from the University of North Texas and Texas A & M Commerce.
